PrymaCare may provide private prescriptions following a clinical consultation where it is safe and appropriate to do so. Prescribing decisions are made after careful clinical assessment and in accordance with professional prescribing standards.
Not all consultations will result in a prescription. The clinician will only prescribe medication where it is considered clinically appropriate and safe.
If medication is recommended following your consultation, a private prescription may be issued. You will be sent a prescription ID via email which you can use to collect from a pharmacy of your choice or you can choose to have your medication delivered by our partnered online pharmacy (Signature Pharmacy) who will send you a link to pay for your medication and select your delivery option - the choice is yours.
There is no additional cost to your consultation for PrymaCare to issue a private prescription however the cost of the medication itself must be paid directly to the dispensing pharmacy. Prices for private prescriptions may vary between pharmacies.
PrymaCare follows recognised professional standards for prescribing to ensure patient safety. Before issuing a prescription, the clinician may need to consider a number of factors including:
In some cases, additional information may be required before medication can be safely prescribed.
PrymaCare consultations rely primarily on the information provided by the patient during the consultation. We do not have routine access to NHS GP records. It is therefore important that patients provide accurate information about their medical history, medications and allergies during the consultation.
For safety reasons, PrymaCare may decline to prescribe medication in certain situations. This may include where:
In these situations, the clinician may recommend seeking care through your NHS GP or another appropriate service.
PrymaCare does not prescribe controlled drugs or medications that carry a high risk of misuse or dependency.
Requests for these medications will be declined.
Antibiotics are only prescribed when there is clear clinical evidence that they are required. Many common infections do not benefit from antibiotic treatment, and unnecessary use can contribute to antibiotic resistance.
The clinician will advise whether antibiotic treatment is appropriate based on your symptoms and clinical assessment.
Where appropriate and with patient consent, PrymaCare may share relevant information with your NHS GP to support continuity of care.
Patients are encouraged to inform their GP of any private consultations or medications prescribed where appropriate.
PrymaCare consultations are intended for non-emergency medical concerns.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 999 or attend your nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.
For urgent medical advice that cannot wait, please contact NHS 111.
If you have questions about prescribing or whether your condition may be suitable for a consultation, please contact PrymaCare before booking.
